One of the most popular hikes in Jordan and named one of the best hikes in the world by National Geographic.

This is a 7 day hike created by one of the most respected guides in Jordan, Omar. If you wish to be guided by him please let us know.

Note: it is possible to adjust this trek to make it shorter by a day as there are three other routes available.  You can also extend your stay in Jordan by either trekking onto Wadi Rum or just sightseeing and relaxing. You can also be driven to Wadi Rum and spend a night at a camp or hike within the reserve.


What follows is a general flow of events.

Day 1

Meet and assist at Amman airport – drive to Dana Nature Reserve approx 2.5 hours.

Note: depending on arrival time it may be necessary to stay in Madaba due to travelling time.

Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast the trek starts from the reserve walking through the valley taking in the scenery. Pass by Fenan Lodge and Kherbat Fenan towards Seil Wadi Gwair next to the Roman Kerbat.Throughout the day stops will be made for tea breaks and lunch will be served.

Dinner and your overnight camp await.

Day 3

Awake to breakfast being served and the obligatory tea!

Today you will visit the Churches, Copper Mines, Ovens and water dams whilst heading towards Wadi Abu Sakakeen. On the way you will see the daily life of the Bedouins who still live traditionally herding goats and camels.

Dinner and the overnight camp will be at Wadi Abu Sakakeen.

Day 4

After breakfast you will trek to Rass Feith leaving the valley floor and ascending up into the mountains. On reaching a pass at 895m there are amazing views over Wadi Araba and of your destination.

Descending through magnificent scenery with waterfalls and water basins you will arrive at your camp for the night, Rass Feith.

Day 5

Today you head for Qbour Al Wehedat starting with Sufah to see the Nabateans Water spring. After an easy descent there is a steep ascent to around 300m for more amazing views, a perfect place for lunch.

From there descend to your overnight camp where you will see the oldest Nabatean Winery, this land was full of vines.

Day 6

After a camp breakfast you will start the final part of the trek towards Little Petra by ascending to an open valley farmed by the local bedouin. Pass by Ba’ajah where you will see an old Neolithic village and onto Maeserah to see the Nabatean temple and water basins.

Day 7

Today after breakfast from Little Petra hike across the desert for around 2 hours until you reach The Monastery, this avoids having to climb the 900 steps!

Descending gives you a birds eye view of Petra and once you reach the bottom you will then walk through the city passing the temple to a Nabatean deity, Dusara, along the remains of the Colonnaded Street finally arriving at the famous Treasury. From here walk back through the Siq which is partly paved and you will see the water system installed by the Nabateans.

Day 8

After breakfast you have the morning free to visit Petra or wander around Wadi Musa.

Later drive to the Dead Sea for some rest and relaxation. Have a mud bath followed by a dip in the saltiest lake on earth known for its medicinal properties…perfect after all that hiking!

Day 9

Return to Amman for your flight home.

Your trip can be further extended with a hike to Wadi Rum. You can also be driven to Wadi Rum and spend a night at a camp or hike within the reserve.
